How Network Marketers & Barack Obama Can Use Twitter For Success!

Here's something cool, which will be a lot of fun when you implement in your marketing arsenal... Recently, Raymond and I presented at the Hwa Rang Do Black Sash conference on the application of internet marketing tactics for martial arts studios.

One of the coolest parts of the presentation was when we showed these school owners, how to use the insanely popular social networking tool called 'Twitter'. If you are not familiar with 'Twitter', their business model is actually pretty simple and at first glance, can seem a bit silly...

Your profile on Twitter consist of nothing more than your website URL, a short description and a 'ticker' of updates telling people what you are doing on any given moment during the day. And people can choose to 'follow' what you are doing and your updates will automatically appear on their Twitter home page for them to see.

You can either log onto the website and type in your update, or you can text message it from your cell phone for an instant update. It seems a little twisted, because it's like a type of 'New Age Voyegerism'. But it's become insanely popular and is now widely used by celebrities, company CEO's, politicians and even marketers. Now how exactly can you use Twitter to promote your business? Here are a few strategies for various types of business and applications...

Marketers and Networkers on Twitter

Now, we've talked quite a bit in recent years about developing YOU, INC. when trying to brand yourself and grow a network marketing business. Well, Twitter is a great way to allow your prospects to get to know you on a more personal level. Ultimately, people want to know that you are a real person

"Join Me at the Bar..."

I do not recommend you use it as a pure promotional tool where you flash your affiliate link to products. It's ok to recommend something once in a while, but if you do that too much, you won't have many people following you. Although there is one marketer who recently did something very interesting with his Twitter updates...

He was sitting at a bar, in Florida killing sometime while waiting for an appointment. Since he was just sitting around, he send a Twitter update saying, "I'll be at XYZ bar in Orlando, FL. for the next couple of hours. If anyone wants to come by and talk shop, come on by..." Literally 20 minutes later, a couple of guys walk into the bar to greet this marketer and talk shop, exchange ideas and have a few drinks. It's genius, because from here on out, you bet more people will be subscribing to this marketer's twitter updates just in case he ever sends out another message like that again. It's a great "piece of cheese" to use to bring more people into your Twitter followers list and connect with people.

Small Business Owners

Twitter also allows you to place a widget on to your MySpace, Facebook and Websites, which will display all updates you send to Twitter. An idea for a small business, especially for martial arts studios, is to create a Twitter profile for your business and place this widget on your website. Turn this widget into a window inside your business. For martial arts schools, you can upload regular updates about current classes and exact techniques which are being taught at any given moment.

For a brick and mortar business, if you want to let your customers know about a new specialty item which is now available in your store, just update your Twitter ticker and it will show up on your website.

This type of marketing gives your prospect an entirely new user experience and they can learn about your products or services in a dynamic way.

Politicians and Celebrities

Twitter is a virtual goldmine for politicians and celebrities looking to establish a large following via the social networks. Imagine being able to follow the day to day activities of Barack Obama, Ron Paul, John McCain or the Clintons...

In fact, politicians and celebrities can all but fire their publicist because they can use Twitter to notify the press and fans about any upcoming events and places they'll be at.

It's particularly powerful in today's day and age, where people are still getting to know public figures like Barack Obama or getting to know a different side of polarizing politicians like Hillary Clinton or George Bush... it provides a whole new perspective into their humanity...

It's a way to connect personally with voters, which is crucial because it's been shown that the politician whom is most likable is much more likely to get the votes.

Anyway, I think you get the idea...So if you haven't done so already, go to Twitter.com and start a profile. It takes 5 minutes. And of course, Twitter is not a marketing system in and of itself... It should be viewed as another traffic tool for your funded proposal system.

Social Media Goldmines - Facebook and Twitter

Facebook. Twitter. The names might sound silly, but their power is anything but. Social media web sites are the face of the Web 2.0 marketing revolution. They work on a simple networking principle: word of mouth. You create a profile and invite your friends to subscribe to it. Then they invite their friends, and pretty soon your messages are being sent out far and wide to a receptive audience.

>
>

Let's take a closer look at how you can use Facebook and Twitter to share your business with the world.

Facebook

Facebook has over 150 million active users, and is among the top 100 most visited web sites in the world. It allows people to join networks and add friends who share common interests. It also lets you share personal and business information with friends in your network.

To join Facebook, go to Facebook.com and enter your e-mail address, password, and date of birth. You'll soon receive a confirmation e-mail. Once your address has been confirmed, you can start searching for your friends and joining networks. Your own profile can be customized by clicking "Profile", "Info", and then "Edit Information".

Facebook allows you to share links, videos, pictures, messages, and status updates with everyone on your friends list. You can even play games and send virtual items to your friends. Remember, Facebook is where people go to see the human side of your business.

Twitter

Twitter has been called a mini-blog, and for good reason. Users send out continuous updates, or "tweets", in 140 characters or less. Because it's so easy to use Twitter over cell phones, updates can be sent from anywhere - airport terminals, clubs, sporting events, and even the dentist's office. Using Twitter is like having your own reality show with millions of potential viewers.

Twitter is even more user-friendly than Facebook. To get started, go to twitter.com. Choose an easy user name and password, and then choose whether or not you want to import the contacts from your Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail account.

Next, you'll be brought to your home page. Enter a message in the box at the top of the page, and click "Update". That's all you have to do to start tweeting. Later, you can click on the "Settings" tab at the top of your home page to fill in your profile details.

You can use Twitter to announce new blog posts, share tips, and answer people's questions. If someone "follows" you, follow them back. You can send private tweets to people, but your public tweets can be seen by all of your followers and all of their followers. This makes it possible to cultivate a good audience in very little time. You can even add a Twitter widget to your Facebook page.

Social Networking Etiquette

Why are Facebook and Twitter so popular? For one thing, they're personal. You can learn a lot about a person by reading their profile, following their favorite links, and learning about their hobbies and interests. Also, they are interactive communities that bring people together. In this age of Internet marketing, people want to talk with a real person rather than receive generic messages from a faceless corporation. Social networking lets you connect with your audience on a new level.

The golden rule of social networking is to just be yourself. Don't spam people with ads for your business, and don't bore them with generic messages. Get to know them, and they'll soon spread the word about the valuable services you offer.

UAE, China and Russia Leading Social TV Users - APP Market

The key findings from the results paint a very interesting picture of global social TV.

>
>

Sixty per cent of those surveyed from the UAE have used a social network or internet chat software to discuss a television programme or video content while they were watching it; the third highest total behind China (70 per cent) and Russia (66 per cent). Of this group, a further 67 per cent do it frequently or very frequently, the highest combined percentage of the entire survey.

According to the findings, a huge percentage of the China, Russia and the UAE are using a social network or internet chat software to discuss programming while they watch.

What's interesting is that these stats are actually good news for the service providers as Zawya points out:

Spelling good news for service providers, 28 per cent of those who have used social networks or chat service to discuss programming would readily pay a premium for such services to be integrated into their TV service, while 47 per cent would seriously consider paying extra provided they were given a demonstration of its value. A massive 73 per cent would change service provider to one that offered access to these services.

Will Google TV, Apple TV,Roku or Boxee be the answer to this desire to converge social networking with the set-top box or will one of the social TV startups find a way to fill this void around the globe?

Maybe a simple Facebook or Twitter widget will be the answer. Verizon Fios already has Facebook and Twitter widgets but sans a keyboard I can't imagine how often consumers actually use them. My vote is currently with Google TV, who has a detailed keyboard available through Logitech and an app store poised for growth.

LinkedIn now offers sharing widgets to publishers - EndScore

When people speak of social networks, a lot of the conversation these days is focused on Facebook and Twitter, but in the business world, LinkedIn is where the action is. Today, the business social networking site has started offering a "Share" button to web publishers, very similar to the one already available from Facebook. The new button allows readers to share content from sites they visit with their LinkedIn connections.

>
>

Several button sizes and options are available for publishers to choose from. Competition in the sharing area is of course very high, with many sites already offering Facebook, Digg, and Twitter buttons. It's unclear if many sites will jump in and add LinkedIn sharing links, or if those will remain confined to the business world.

How Do You Get People to Follow You on Twitter?

Following are five steps to obtain more followers on Twitter:

Follow As Many People As Possible Some would argue with this point, however, the value of this is important. Pick people who sound interesting to follow. You will find yourself clicking on their tweets because there is bound to be something interesting to you. In turn, people feel obligated to follow you back, or, as a courtesy will follow you back. You will gain followers this way. However, if they do not follow you back, do not take it personally. Not everyone agrees with this method.

>

Create A Profile With Your Interests Make sure that you have included your hobbies or interests, in addition to whatever it is you are promoting, in your profile. People will follow according to interests. They can also search by category in Twitter, so if you have placed in your profile, for example, that you are an avid reader of novels, someone could type in "books" in the search category and find you. "Follow Me On Twitter" Make sure you have this application on every blog and website you own. Just Google to find a good Twitter graphic button that you may use for free. Also, you can get your own Twitter Widget from Twitter to insert on your web pages. Create Good Tweets If you Tweet good content, other tweeters will notice and may retweet your information to their followers. In turn you can get more followers this way. You can also create a tinyurl of a web page you find important and Tweet that as well. I find I will click on these tinyurls if they seem interesting to me. #Follow Fridays Believe it or not, Fridays are the days that people promote their followers on Twitter. Make sure you are on Twitter on Follow Fridays and Tweet away your followers. Also, you need to have "#FollowFridays" somewhere in your Tweet so others can find your recommendations.

I am an avid Social Networker and enjoy figuring out all the tips and tricks you can use on Facebook and Twitter. Follow my discussion about Twitter here Can Twitter Make Money? I am also a sahm-wahm of 2 kids and you can follow my journey here: http://www.momsmakingmoneyonline.info/

Hottest New Widget For Twitter - BubbleTweet

You now can record a video snippet and then have it displayed on your Twitter page for any new visitors or followers to see, BubbleTweet is simple and fun - that's always a good combination in my book.

>
>

It also offers a further personal touch to the already social Twitter experience - giving your followers a look into who the person behind the bio.  Allowing your personality to truly come to life and shine.

It also has a lot of potential for both personal and corporate branding. Imagine being able to tell followers your latest news or information, but instead of tweeting it you can say it?  Making yourself stand out in a large group of followers.

BubbleTweet uses a unique URL to host your video message on, the best way to use it is as a link from your blog, website or email signature. Once your visitors have seen the video and the bubble window closes, it then reverts to your normal Twitter URL so you control its use.  I personally wish this was optionally always on however today it is not an option.

I've seen similar applications used on blogs before, but not Twitter. It is pretty ironic because Twitter was designed as a Micro Blog supporting only 140 characters by design.  Regardless, this is a great widget to add to any Twitter page and is one of my twitter "must have" widgets for the hardcore user.  This is a great little tool and I recommend you check it out.

Look forward to seeing yours very soon.
